Do you know the most nutritious part of an egg is is the yolk? Yes it contains more vitamins than the egg white,the egg yolk has about one percent of mineral salts,it contains lutein,a yellow colouring matter in most raw food which has iron. Let’s not forget the yolk contains more protein and egg has a whole is considered as one of the healthiest protein.
From most of the research I made,I keep hearing the praises of egg yolk and egg as a whole,so why then do I hear from another set of people to stop or reduce the consumption of eggs?

So I decided to seek the opinion of a registered dietitian & nutritionist with a masters in Nutrition from Lehman College-CUNY,Bronx NY,Miss Adebisi Ibrahim who can also be reached on her Facebook handle as “Zee Ibrahim”

Question: Why do some people say reduce your consumption of eggs or stop eating it totally or eat only the white when you are on a diet, when personal research has shown that egg is very healthy especially the yolk part especially the nutritional value?

Answer:(Miss Adebisi Ibrahim). Whole egg has a very high biological value for protein.
The egg white is about 10 or more calories,0 cholesterol,0 carbs,0 fat and 4g of protein.
The yolk is about 71 calories:5g of fat,211mg cholesterol,0 carbs and 6g of protein.
The reason they say do not eat the yolk is for those with high lipid profile (Hyperlipidemia)meaning their cholesterol, triglycerides,HDL and LDL in their blood is high already.
Such people are advised to eat only the egg white so that their cholesterol level won’t higher which will put them at risk for heart disease.

Recommended amount of cholesterol from food should not be more than 300mg a day by American standard/recommendation.
It’s important to know that we make cholesterol ourselves and high cholesterol can be hereditary not to make it worse it is better to stay away from foods high in cholesterol like egg yolk and shrimps.
For those who do not have high cholesterol already. Eating the yolk won’t make any difference except if you are over dozing on high fatty foods round the clock and you are overweight or obese,then you will be at risk for many health complications. I hope this helps..
