What is really the difference between spice and herb? Both spice and herb are plant based, what makes the difference between spice and herb is what part of the plant is used to make either spice or herb.
Both spice and herb are edible, both can be used for cooking and made into herbal tea.
Spices are mostly in dried form while herbs are often in fresh form.
Spices are derived from roots, barks, fruits, & seeds of plants,while herbs are mostly derived from leaf,stem or flower of plants.
Spices have more intense flavour & taste depth than herbs that are subtle in flavour, which means it is often better to add herbs when one is almost done or done with cooking while spices can be used anytime during cooking.
Spices are usually more colourful than herbs and comes in different colours while herbs are mostly green in colour.
Herbs are more enjoyable as herbal tea.
It is important to note that often times,spice and herbs are used interchangeably, in a write up,book or spoken word when herb is mentioned, it might in fact be actual spice, same as when spice is mentioned in place of herb.
