On the 13th of June,2023, Hilda Effiong Bassey, now popularly known as “Hilda Baci”, “Baci” which is the shortened name from “Bassey”, who is from the south south region of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom state was declared by Guinness World Records as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by individual for cooking for over 93 hours and 11 minutes within the space of over four days.
Hilda’s Cook a thon “Hilda Baci Cook-A-Thon” as it was tagged by Hilda Baci, started on May 11 & ended on May 14th,2023.
The cooking Marathon was held at Amore gardens,1 Amore street,Lekki Phase one,Lagos,Nigeria.
Hilda Baci prepared over 100 pots of food, which was mostly Nigerian & African cuisines, aimed at promoting Africa & Nigeria dishes, she did this by using a 35 item menu as guide.
The food prepared by her were freely given to the crowd that kept to support & view the cooking Marathon, for every day she cooked, part of the food was also donated to an established Charity home by the name of Festus Fajemilo foundation.
Although Hilda Baci cooked for 100 hours because of a mistake in resting time & Guinness Book of record guideline, it was officially cut to the 93 hours,& 11 minutes, beating the previous cook marathon record of 87 hours, & 45 minutes by Lala Tondon in 2019, by an Indian.
It is worthy to note that Hilda Baci’s mother, Lynda Ndukwe is also a chef & she draws inspiration from her mother in walking the same food path. Hilda manages a food and restaurant business called “my food by Hilda”. She graduated with a degree in Sociology from Madonna University, Nigeria.
