In Nigeria, zobo drink also means hibiscus drink, so this is the same thing as making hibiscus drink. Zobo drink is a very popular drink in Nigeria and Africa. Various spices, herbs and fruits can be used in making zobo drink but I will be sharing the most popular Zobo/hibiscus drink recipe in Nigeria.
Ingredients in making Zobo/Hibiscus drink
- Mint
- Ginger
- Black pepper
- Clove (optional)
- Lemon juice or lemon slices (optional)
- Pineapple peels or cubes of pineapple fruit
- Sugar or honey for healthier alternative.
Sometimes some people also add star anise in making zobo/hibiscus drink. One can also experiment and try out different fruits for making Zobo/hibiscus drink.
Making Zobo/Hibiscus Drink
- Boil all ingredients together except the sugar or honey.
- When the Zobo/hibiscus drink seems ready when it looks very pinkish, then add in your sugar or honey, let it boil for a very short while.
- Allow it to cool
- After it cools, sieve the zobo/hibiscus drink and pour into any container you like and allow it to chill.
- After chilling, enjoy and drink your zobo/hibiscus drink however you like
