In Nigeria, zobo drink also means hibiscus drink, so this is the same thing as making hibiscus drink. Zobo drink is a very popular drink in Nigeria and Africa. Various spices, herbs and fruits can be used in making zobo drink but I will be sharing the most popular Zobo/hibiscus drink recipe in Nigeria.

Ingredients in making Zobo/Hibiscus drink

  1. Mint
  2. Ginger
  3. Black pepper
  4. Clove (optional)
  5. Lemon juice or lemon slices (optional)
  6. Pineapple peels or cubes of pineapple fruit
  7. Sugar or honey for healthier alternative.

Sometimes some people also add star anise in making zobo/hibiscus drink. One can also experiment and try out different fruits for making Zobo/hibiscus drink.

Making Zobo/Hibiscus Drink

  • Boil all ingredients together except the sugar or honey.
  • When the Zobo/hibiscus drink seems ready when it looks very pinkish, then add in your sugar or honey, let it boil for a very short while.
  • Allow it to cool
  • After it cools, sieve the zobo/hibiscus drink and pour into any container you like and allow it to chill.
  • After chilling, enjoy and drink your zobo/hibiscus drink however you like
